PORTFOLIO: THINGS TO DO

Wil Alexander Wholeness Series
The Wil Alexander Wholeness Series carries the name of one of Loma Linda University’s well-known and best-loved educators, Dr. Wil Alexander, PhD.  Before Loma Linda University ever adopted the motto, “To Make Man Whole,” Dr. Alexander’s vision for transforming lives at Loma Linda University (LLU) was built on the philosophy of Whole Person Care (WPC).  This series is dedicated to honoring his legacy by shedding light on topics of wholeness throughout the disciplines.  Workshops take place on Wednesdays at 5:00 p.m. in the Centennial Complex’s Damazo Amphitheater.  The series is sponsored by the LLU School of Allied Health Professions, Loma Linda University Medical Center East Campus Hospital, and the LLU office of student affairs.

Faith and Film Series
The Faith & Film program began in 2008 as a response to a felt need on the Loma Linda University (LLU) campus for an interdisciplinary program connecting faith and the arts.  Once a week during the noon hour students and faculty from all schools convene in Randall Visitor's Center to watch part of a film and discuss its implications for modern Christian life.  Each film is hosted by a faculty moderator who selects the film clips that will be shown and inspires a discussion about what is shown.  Faith & Film is co-sponsored by the Center for Spiritual Life & Wholeness, LLU Campus Ministries, and the School of Religion.

Health and Faith Forum
The Health and Faith Forum aims to explore issues in ethics and wholeness across all disciples. The purpose behind the lecture series is to discuss current issues in ethics and whole person care, to analyze these within the policies and practices of healthcare at large, and to analyze what changes may need to be implemented in the participants' own healthcare environment and practices.  Lectures take place on the campus of Loma Linda University (LLU) on roughly a monthly basis during the academic calendar year. Attendance is free, but early seating is recommended. The Health and Faith Forum is co-sponsored by the LLU Center for Christian Bioethics and the LLU Center for Spiritual Life and Wholeness.

Spiritual Care Workshop
The Spiritual Care Workshop is an annual two-day event coordinated by the Loma Linda University (LLU) Center for Spiritual Life and Wholeness.  Spiritual care in every discipline involves finding ways in which our values – compassion, integrity, and wholeness – can bring comfort and healing to patients facing illness or death, as well as to their families, and their caregivers.  Thus, spiritual care is necessary to provide healing and restoration of broken people. Workshops include a conceptual overview of spiritual care and on-site practicums with experienced mentors.  Call (909) 558-7786 today for more information.

Drayson Center Recreation & fitness >>
The Drayson Center is a multi-purpose wellness facility dedicated to promoting physical, mental, and spiritual wellness through recreation and fitness.  Located on the campus of Loma Linda University (LLU), the Drayson Center provides opportunities for enhancing quality of life through a wide variety of social, recreational, and health-building activities. These services promote the mission health-sciences university, "to make man whole," and contribute to the balance and integration of the intellectual, spiritual, social, and physical powers of LLU students and others whom it serves.

Student Counseling program
Loma Linda University (LLU) provides counseling and support services for students with personal, relational, family, and spiritual problems.  The services are easily accessible and students are encouraged to take advantage of them during times of need.  In addition to the services described above, specific help is available for students with substance abuse/dependencies and other problems of addictive behavior. Specific information about these services is given to students at the time of matriculation.  Students who need help are encouraged to visit the Student Counseling Center, the student assistance program, and/or consult with the Associate Dean for student affairs of their respective schools.
