A Mission statement defines your fundamental purpose or reason for being. The same is true of an organization. Mission defines who the customer is and the critical processes involved in conducting business. It also informs you of the desired level of performance, whether of yourself or your employees.
For example, the Mission of Loma Linda University is, “To continue the healing and teaching ministry of Jesus Christ.”
Want to write your own mission statement? Follow the link below to the My Journey section of the portal. Once you are logged in, visit the Journal and begin writing a mission statement. Don’t worry if it doesn’t come out perfect on the first attempt. It may help at first to match the statement to a favorite quote, Bible verse, or song lyric. Revisit the statement frequently and try putting it to memory. Write the mission on a card and carry it in a purse or wallet, or recite it aloud each morning on the way to work/school. Mission statements are a powerful tool for achieving desired performance.
