ARTS FOR LIFE

Regular creative activity is important for your overall mental health and well-being. This includes activities that you enjoy and can easily fit into your daily routine—such as visiting a museum or taking in a concert. But arts for life is about more than observing others performing. Arts for life is about learning how to particpate in a creative process and learning new skills that can give meaning and beauty to your life. Life is more than making widgets to fit in a box for eight hours a day.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Everyone, at any age, can benefit from the health effects of participating in a creative exercise. Creative activity spans a wide range from writing to photography, arts, video, music and theater. Engaging in a creative activity challenges the mind to make new connections and relate to the world in a different way.Taking time to create something beautiful out of simple tools, say paper and pencil, can be a wonderful way to balance our hi-tech fast paced digital existence. A drawing is a visual record of a moment in time in a specific place.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Every city has a community center that offers classes ranging from cooking to photography. Your local community college will also offer courses if you prefer a learning environment with more instruction. You can find thousands of groups online that meet specifically around a shared activity, such as cooking, photography or drawing.
